MHT-CET admission guide

MHT-CET CAP Rounds & Counselling Guide

A clear walkthrough of Maharashtra engineering admissions — from CAP registration and document verification to option-form strategy and seat allotment decisions.

Register first

Complete the current-year CAP registration on the official CET Cell portal before filling preferences.

Keep documents ready

Upload and verify the certificates that apply to your category, domicile, and admission claim.

Rank preferences carefully

The order of your option form matters: place genuine first choices above realistic backups.

Confirm every allotment

Read the current seat-allotment instructions before choosing freeze, betterment, or acceptance actions.

The complete flow

How CAP counselling works

01

Check the current notification

Start with the latest notice, schedule, information brochure, and institute list published by the Maharashtra CET Cell. Dates, fees, eligibility rules, and portals can change each admission year.

02

Create your CAP application

Register with an active email address and mobile number, enter your MHT-CET or other qualifying details, and complete the application using the current instructions.

03

Upload and verify documents

Submit the documents relevant to your application and complete the required verification step. Resolve discrepancies before the option form deadline.

04

Submit the option form

Add eligible college-branch choices in your preferred order, review the list, and submit or confirm it before the portal closes for that round.

05

Read the allotment result

When a round is published, check the exact college, branch, category, quota, reporting deadline, and the action available for your allotment.

06

Accept, report, or seek betterment

Follow the current-year instructions for fee payment, seat acceptance, reporting, and participation in later rounds. Missing a deadline can affect your seat.

Prepare before registration

Document checklist

The exact list depends on your candidature type and claims. Keep clear scans and originals available, and use the current brochure to confirm which documents apply to you.

  • MHT-CET scorecard or the qualifying examination score document
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets or equivalent qualifying records
  • Government photo identity proof and recent passport-size photograph
  • Domicile or birth certificate, when required for the claim being made
  • Category, caste validity, and non-creamy layer or EWS documents, when applicable
  • PwD, orphan, defence, minority, or other reservation certificates, when applicable
  • Income or tuition-fee waiver documents, when applying under a relevant scheme

Before you submit

Option-form strategy
1

Start with fit, not only reputation

Use branch interest, location, fees, travel, hostel needs, and placement priorities alongside cutoff data. A famous college is not automatically the best fit for every student.

2

Build a balanced list

Mix ambitious choices with realistic target options and safer choices. Avoid filling the entire form with only highly competitive branches.

3

Order every choice honestly

The system considers the sequence you submit. Keep a college-branch choice above another only when you would genuinely prefer it if both were available.

4

Use branch flexibility deliberately

If you are open to allied branches, place them intentionally after your core preferences. Do not add a branch you would never accept just to make the list longer.

5

Review category and quota details

Compare choices under the category, candidature type, and quota that actually apply to you. Cutoffs from another category or quota are not a direct promise of admission.

Round-day decisions

Common CAP questions

Use these answers as a planning reference. The official round notice always takes priority over a general explanation.

A practical final check

Before you freeze your list

  • Confirm every listed branch is one you would accept.
  • Check fees, location, travel, hostel, and branch curriculum.
  • Compare your percentile with the right category and quota data.
  • Save proof of submission and watch the official portal for notices.

Build a smarter CAP shortlist

Use historical cutoff data as one input, then shape your list around your actual branch and college priorities.
